Some people feel that they want to save money by doing things themselves rather than hiring an expert. If you are thinking of selling your own home rather than hiring a real estate professional, I found some questions you can ask yourself to help you decide:
1. How familiar are you with the legal aspects of selling a home?
A. Very Familiar
B. Somewhat Familiar
C. Not Familiar At All
2. Do you have the time and resources to handle the entire selling process from property preparation, to marketing, to negotiating, to funding and then to closing?
A. Yes, I Have Plenty Of Time
B. I Have Some Time, But It’s Limited
C. No, I’m Quite Busy
3. How confident do you feel about pricing your home?
A. Very Confident
B. Somewhat Confident
C. Not Confident At All
4. How comfortable are you negotiating with potential buyers?
A. Very Comfortable
B. Somewhat Comfortable
C. Not Comfortable At All
5. How well do you handle unexpected challenges and surprises, particularly when emotions and finances are involved?
A. I Handle Them Like A Pro
B. I Can Manage, But It Stresses Me Out
C. I Prefer To Avoid Surprises
This is by no means a comprehensive list of questions to ask yourself to determine your readiness to embark on what could be the most significant transaction in your life time. However, it’s a start.
For each question that you answered “A”, give yourself 5 points.
For each question that you answered “B”, give yourself 3 points.
For each question that you answered “C”, give yourself ZERO points.
If you scored 25 points, you *might* be a good candidate to sell your home on your own.
If you scored less than 23, you should definitely hire a professional: Contact me today.
