October 2008 ~ Fun Things To Do Throughout The San Francisco Bay Area

As has become customary, below you will find many fun things to do throught the San Francisco Bay Area for the month of October 2008.  Just a few more reasons why this is one of the best places in the world to live.  Remember, this is only a sampling:

October 1 – Marin Clean Energy Event at the Bay Model Visitor Center


October 2 – Light the Night Walk to help find cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, at the Justin Herman Plaza


October 2 – The Butterfly Zone Night Safari at the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers


October 3 – San Francisco International Comedy Competition at the Napa Valley Opera House


October 3 – 5 – The 8th Annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park


October 4 – The 5th Annual Tam Fest at the Tamalpais Community Hall in Mill Valley, featuring barbecue, arts and crafts, eco-friendly information, Kids’ area, community groups, a raffle and more!


October 4 – 26th Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival features Sweet Honey and The Rock at Davies Symphony Hall


October 4 – Randall Museum invites to come and Meet The Animals


October 4 – San Francisco’s LoveFest Parade and Festival 


October 4 – Sebastiani Vineyards is hosting their Annual Italian Festival, complete with grape stomping, pizza tossing, wine tasting, bocce ball, Italian music and Italian Costume Contest!


October 4 & 5 – As part of the Italian Heritage Celebration, the Madonna del Luma Celebration


October 5 – Marin Symphony’s Opening Night Gala at Marin Civic Center’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium (Black Tie or Tango Attire)


October 5 – The 32nd Annual Bridge to Bridge Run benefiting Special Olympics


October 5 – The Robert C. Placak Tiburon Mile which will attract open water swimmers to the Bay from around the world


October 7 – McCormick and Kuleto’s 15th Annual Shuck and Swallow to benefit the Marine Mammal Center


October 7 –  The Average White Band is playing The Grand Ballroom at the Regency Center


October 7 – The Sonoma Valley Farmer’s Market on the Sonoma Plaza


October 9 – 14 – It’s Fleet Week in San Francisco!  (click on the link for more detailed information)


October 10 – Verdi Club is hosting Obamathon:  United We Dance


October 10 – Malt Advocate’s 2nd Annual Whisky Fest at the Marriott San Francisco


October 11 – The Italian Heritage Grand Ball at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco


October 11 – The 3rd Annual Sonoma Valley Home Winemakers Celebration will be just behind the Swiss Hotel (just behind the Plaza) featuring wines from over 30 local home wineries along with local cuisine, to benefit Sonoma Valley High School.


October 12 – The mile long stretch of Arnold Drive that runs through Glen Ellen will be closed down for the Glen Ellen Village Fair, complete with food, wine, beer and craft booths.  Festivities are from noon until 5:00pm.


October 12 – The 140th Annual Italian Heritage/Columbus Day Parade in San Francisco


October 12 – Sonoma Community Center is hosting the Wine Country Kitchen Tour and Luncheon.  You can see how homeowners, builders and designers are creating kitchens.  For more information call 707-938-4626 x1  (sorry, no web link for this one)


October 14 – The Sonoma Valley Farmer’s Market on the Sonoma Plaza


October 18 – 2008 Wine Country Memory Walk in Petaluma to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association


October 19 – The Grand Italian Buffet at the Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club, a fundraiser to help support those living with Alzheimer’s


October 21 – The Sonoma Valley Farmer’s Market on the Sonoma Plaza


October 22 – 26th Annual San Francisco Jazz Festival features David Brubeck at Davies Symphony Hall


October 24 – The 5th (and final!) George Bush Going Away Party:  An Evening of Political Comedy at the Marin Center Showcase Theater


October 24 – Phoebe Snow is playing at the Napa Valley Opera House


October 25 – The “O You” Event by Oprah Winfrey’s “O” Magazine is at the Moscone Center


October 25 & 26 –Marin’s Glorious Glass Pumpkin Harvest at the Falkirk Mansion in San Rafael


October 27 – November 2 – The Charles Scwhab Cup Championship at Sonoma Golf Club


October 28 – The Sonoma Valley Farmer’s Market on the Sonoma Plaza (this is the last one for the year)


October 28 – Boz Scaggs bring his “Speak Low” Tour to the Napa Valley Opera House


October 31 – Take the Haunted Haight Walking Tour for something a little different on Halloween
